Retail unit within the Pier House redevelopment
Following ongoing concerns over the possible arrival of a national retailer as part of the Pier House
redevelopment, the LBA is conducting a "Survey of Public Opinion."
Whilst some may approve of the possible arrival of national retail multiples, the impact on the
existing local businesses, many independent and long-standing, must be taken into account. Maintaining the
diversity and balance of retail offerings in Lee is paramount, and the arrival of a large national retailer
could, with a blotting paper effect, reduce trading levels for many local shops. The "Survey of Public Opinion" is
simply to see levels of support "for" and "against" the possible arrival of such a retail outlets.
With the level of secrecy surrounding this development, it is important that both the developer
and the Gosport Borough Council Head of Planning know of public sentiment in Lee-on-the-Solent, and whilst the
results of this "Survey of Public Opinion" cannot alter planning decisions already approved, we can, nonetheless,
make our customer opinions known.
The "Survey of Public Opinion" forms can be found in The Cottage Loaf, The Book Shop, All Seasons, Neil Griffiths Butchers, Sweet Lee, and Lee Convenience until the end of May.
